My brother was diagnosed with a complex medical condition. He was a pharmacist, and I was a hospital wellness director, but even with our combined knowledge of the medical system, his diagnosis was still overwhelming. I lived thousands of miles away and he needed help with appointments, daily care, finding the right specialists, treatment options, and care transitions. I witnessed firsthand how difficult it is for anyone, regardless of their background, to navigate the healthcare system. Bottom line when you're already fighting for your life, you just don't have much left in the tank for anything else. This deeply personal experience made me realize how desperately healthcare advocates are needed. If you are facing a health challenge, you don't have to do it alone.
